So let’s toss aside generic breakfast cereals and get properly inspired to eat well at the start of the day…

10 Easy Healthy Breakfast Ideas To Keep You Fully Nourished

1  Superfood Smoothie

Of all easy healthy breakfast ideas that I can think of, smoothies are my all time favourite!  I have them pretty much every day and rarely the same one twice, because you can change up the ingredients in so many ways.

Use superfoods like avocado, blueberries, spinach, chia, flax seeds, cacao, coconut oil, nut butter and turmeric, to maximise antioxidant intake.  And because everything’s liquidised together, you’re giving yourself a great hit of nutrients which are ultra easy for your body to absorb and digest.

Here are some Super Healing Life smoothie recipes to get you started… Chocolate Banana Maca SmoothieMood Boosting Avocado Turmeric Smoothie, Cilantro Ginger Smoothie and Cauliflower Berry Smoothie.

2  Chocolate Ginger Porridge

Humble porridge oats (and I don’t mean the ready-made, pre-flavoured kind) have been with us for centuries and there’s a good reason why.  Porridge oats (or rolled oats) are a fab foundation for a hearty, filling breakfast.

You can eat plain porridge with a multitude of delicious toppings, such as nut butter, chopped nuts, grated dark chocolate, goji berries or cranberries, etc.

Or you can try this Chocolate Porridge With Ginger and make yourself very happy indeed.

Ingredients

90g / 1/2 cup rolled/porridge oats

240ml / 1 cup chocolate oat milk

1 tablespoon coconut oil

2 squares 70% dark chocolate, chopped up

1 teaspoon ground ginger

Method

1  Heat the oats and milk in a saucepan, stirring and simmering gently until the porridge thickens.

2  Stir in the ginger and coconut oil, and finally the chocolate chunks just before serving.

3  Overnight Oats

Hurrah for overnight oats, the porridge breakfast that preps itself while you’re asleep and saves you tonnes of faffing.  Zero cooking required, bonus!

I have two glorious recipes to get you started Overnight Oats With Chia Seeds, Banana And Walnut and a Chamomile And Honey version.

4  Chia Seed Pudding

Speaking of breakfasts that prep themselves overnight, chia puddings are another in this phenomenal group.  Chia seeds make a slightly lighter breakfast than overnight oats, but have a wonderful creamy texture and are deeply nourishing.

Combine 3 tablepoons of chia seeds and 240ml / 1 cup coconut milk in a tumbler, and leave to set overnight.  Top with things like blueberries, strawberries and raw honey, or even better swirl them through for a delicious mix.

For a bigger, superfood version try Healing Blueberry Pudding With Chia, which can also be made with gut-healing kefir.

5  Super-Nutritious Cereals

Ok, so if you insist on sticking with cereal for breakfast cos it’s so quick and easy, then there are some seriously nutritious options out there to choose from.  Admittedly they’re a little pricier than Cornflakes and Coco Pops, but they’re also more nourishing and filling, so your bowlfuls will be smaller to make up for it.

Sadly, cos they’re so nourishing you won’t find them in the supermarket, but there is lots of choice online at sites like Ocado and Amazon.

Some of my favs are Rude Health Sprouted Porridge Oats, The Department Of Breakfast range and the Qnola range.  Click on any of the images below for more info.

6  Yoghurt Bowl

A big dollop of organic natural yoghurt, topped with – sliced banana, a mix of fresh blueberries and summer berries, a handful of goji berries, some nut butter, chia seeds, hemp seeds and sunflower seeds.  Wham, another one of the truly best easy healthy breakfast ideas!

7  Gluten-Free Banana Bread

There are some pretty fab GF banana bread recipes out there and a stonking one is by The Civilised Caveman.   The version below has coconut oil instead of butter and extra chocolate chips (cos I can’t help myself)!

It’s is so quick and easy to make, and depending on how much of a pig you are, will last you several breakfasts at least…

Ingredients

4 bananas, mashed

4 organic eggs

140g / 1/2 cup nut butter (loads to choose from – peanut, almond, cashew, etc)

100g dark chocolate chips

4 tablespoons organic coconut oil

75g / 1/2 cup coconut flour

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

pinch of sea salt

Method

1  Preheat oven to 180ºc / 350ºF.

2  In a bowl, blend your bananas, eggs, coconut butter and nut butter.

3  Then add the dry ingredients – flour, cinnamon, vanilla, sea salt, baking powder and bicarbonate – and mix well.  Finally, stir in your choc chips.

4  Pour the mixture into a pre-greased 2lb loaf tin and level it off.

5   Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the banana bread, comes out clean.  Then tip out onto a wire rack to cool, before serving.

8  Simple Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free Pancakes

Mmmm, a stack of fluffy pancakes with delightful toppings, who would say no to that!  And you can make super-simple gluten-free ones with just the following ingredients…

Ingredients

1 large banana

4 organic eggs

1 teaspoon cinnamon OR vanilla

Method

Blend the ingredients together and ladle into a medium-heat frying pan to make individual pancakes.  Flip them over when bubbles appear on the surface.

Serve them with toppings of lemon juice, butter and raw honey; yoghurt and blueberries; melted dark chocolate or your favourite nut butter.

And for another more traditional variation, why not try – Gluten-Free Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes.

9  Eggs, Eggs And More Eggs

I had to get eggs into the Easy Healthy Breakfast Ideas list, because they’re just so damn good for you!  And of course so versatile.  You can poach them eggs-benny style, make a light omelette with mushrooms, scramble them fluffy, or have dippy eggs with asparagus. SO many healthy options to choose from.

10  Avocado And Egg On Sourdough

And while we’re on the egg theme, I had to include avocado and eggs on sourdough.  Poached or scrambled organic eggs, on a ripe Hass avocado with a pinch of sea salt and black pepper, is a match made in heaven!  And the lightly toasted sourdough is a treat if you’re ok with some occasional grains.
