What Are Superfoods?

This is certainly a tricky question to provide a definitive answer to!
‘Superfoods’ is a real buzz-word, that gets bandied around all over the place nowadays.

A pretty good definition would be foods that are super nutrient-dense and provide a ton of great health benefits.  So much so that you don’t need a huge volume of them in your diet to really kickstart the healing process.

Another common factor among them all is the levels of ANTIOXIDANTS they contain – in the form of pigments, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, phytonutrients and all other kinds of natural compounds.

Superfoods produce disease-fighting effects in ALL bodily systems from cardiovascular to brain function, from healing your gut to protecting your liver, as well as hormone balance and supporting great skin health.  Not to mention their many cancer-fighting properties!

And one other common factor amongst them all, is that every one of them is PLANT-BASED.  Superfoods are truly wonderful, all-natural medicines.

1  Turmeric

A true king of the superfoods, turmeric is a powerhouse of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, with nearly 7000 peer-reviewed scientific articles proving its effectiveness!

From killing cancer cells, to reducing pain, boosting brain health and prolonging lifespan, its healing benefits are simply jaw-dropping [1][2][3][4][5].

2  Spirulina

Spirulina is now well-known in the superfoods world, but let’s not take it for granted!

It’s the super-healing blue-green algae which is able to detox heavy metals, tackle Candida overgrowth, boost immunity, reduce cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and risk of stroke.  To name just a few out of numerous health benefits [1].

3  Chlorella

Another algae which is super-high in protein and healthy unsaturated fats.  Like its superfood cousin spirulina, chlorella is an important detoxer of heavy metals.

It’s also rammed with chlorophyll, B-vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients so it has massive antioxidant properties. Even better, chlorella and spirulina are especially powerful when used together as combination superfoods [1][2][3].

4  Beetroot

Though a surprising contender, beetroot has many healing benefits and has a well-deserved place on this superfoods list!

Beet is crammed with antioxidant pigments such as betalains, flavonoids and carotenoids.  And also vitamins B9 (folate), A and C.

Beetroot produces anti-inflammatory effects that help heal disease in the major bodily systems, including the eye, gut, heart, blood vessels and brain [1][2].
